Adopted kids taken from gay father

Chandler Burr, an American father, is fighting the Colombian government for custody  his adoptive sons after authorities discovered he is gay.

Burr met the boys in 2009, and he said they know he's gay. But a Colombian judge said Burr wasn't upfront about his sexual orientation while the adoption was taking place. "Just as Burr had the right to know about the children," the judge said in a statement, "the children had the right to know who the person adopting them really is."

gays are messed up in the head... they don't need to pass their confusion onto their adopted children...

There are countless books and studies done on gay parenting, and it is obvious by your reply that you've not read a single one. 🙂

@AllThePeopleWhoWereTalkingAboutInter-CountryAdoptions ~ I am all for you, but come on, our economy is in a crisis as it is. I do not see it as fair that kids born in OTHER countries are adpoted, and then they come over here, and then eventurally take a job that could have gone to an AMERICAN person, BORN in AMERICA, and was not from another country. If you think about it, if we move ALL immigrants who are NOT on Vacation, and ALL the direct children, that would already improve our economy, because we would not have all these people coming here, taking a job that rally should belong to an AMERICAN, and slipping the money back to their family in zimbabwe which LOWERS our economy.
Adopt a foreign kid by all means, but if you do, remember that every single foreign person, DOWNGRADES our economy.

Money and jobs are not a finite object. People working in those positions cause more money to flow, resulting in MORE WEALTH flowing through America, not less.

I can feel your anger, I read your words and I understand what you are trying to say but you are misguided on so many levels that there isn't enough space to explain why you are wrong.

America doesn't produce anything any more – just where do you think the jobs are going to come from? Blaming foreign illegal workers who take mostly low paying jobs that Americans don't want isn't going to fix the problem. And if you did take those jobs picking fruit and vegetables, waiting tables, cleaning toilets – the wage paid will really scare the living daylights out of you because the American boss isn't following the labour laws because they don't hire Americans. It's a dead end.

You're blaming foreign children because you feel helpless...welcome to the club. Americans are scared – they will blame everyone and anything to try and explain why their world is in such a mess...Americans aren't the only people in the world worried about jobs, family, security etc. Take a deep breath...we are all in it together...you are not alone...wrong yes, but I understand your pain.

If you take a look at the pics, the kids are already leaning away from this man. He has most likely already "attacked" them with inappropriate affection and/or touching. The pics are telling the story. The children would be better off where they are under watchful eyes, not perverted eyes.

Are you for real? Did you really just say that? If you look at my pictures on my facebook page there are tons of pictures of my kids moving away from me. WHY? Because I am their mother and they are at the age they do not want their parents hugging them in public. Did you really just say that? You are kidding right? Just trying to get people worked up? There is no way you really feel that way.

You sound like someone who knows nothing about children, gays or adoption. Did you read a psych article on body languate and now believe you can identify a problem from this one picture? Why do you not just admit you don't like gay people, since you chose to identify this man as a pervert? Get with the program, friend, it is almost 2012 and you are stuck in the dark ages.

Well The judge does have a point. If the guy didn't tell the kids he was gay, then the law should be enforced.

Did you watch the video? He DID tell them, and the kids told the Colombian authorities that they knew and that it wasn't important.

This is an outrage, all judges will one day be judged based on the choices they also make, an abuse of power, corruption of mind, and karma will all come into play. In the mean time, this man should look into getting an attourney. This isn't sad, it's sick and unjustified is what it is. And whoever says it's because the catholic faith is so strict, well perhaps it is, but you explain to all the poor catholic children who were molested by their preists, just how wonderful a strick religeon makes ever man of the faith good and pure...What a joke.

Yes Indeed: The problem with society is that people think that they can do anything
and nothing should be done. My comment is this. It should not be a problem with this youg man raising these children if the environment is a loving one. Also these judges think they can do what ever they want due to the power they have. Judges with a narrow mind should be taken off the bench for disrupting other people lives due to their own prejudice. No matter if you are Gay or not raising children is a major responsiable.

what a sad story, especially the quote about how "the children" have a right to know... as if it were ever about what information was disclosed to them. I'm sure if given a choice, they would have opted to stay .
On a more positive note, I am really proud to see that every comment so far was in support of the man whose adopted children were ripped away from him.

I'm guessing the reason is because Columbia is a predominantly Catholic country, which is pretty strict in the traditional sense. I would certainly say that these children being adopted by a man that lives a lifestyle that they have been told is a sin have the right to know what they're in for.

That said, I think it's horrible they were taken away from a father who probably loved them, cherished them, and took care of them when no one else would. How selfish of the courts to disregard their welfare.

This is different country. They have the right to do whatever they want. This should not be news here. This man should be talking to Columbian journalists, get on the news in Columbia.

It makes me sad that a great, loving person like this man prefers to adopt kids from outside the US...charity begins at home. There are so many kids who need foster homes here. Why not help them?

Because there are a lot of states in this country that don't allow gays to adopt. He probably thought it was easier in another country.

How can that possibly make you sad? Yes, there are American children who needs to be adopted, but it isn't a bad thing if you adopt a kid from another country. A good deed is a good deed.

We have two adopted children from South Korea. I'm sorry that our decision makes you sad. Unlike you, some of us believe that all children have value and need good homes regardless of what country they happen to be born in.

Yes. A child is a child. Children are not to be divided up between American children and foreign children. They are all children, they should all be loved, and adopting any child from anywhere is a wonderful and selfless thing to do.

I think that it is sad that you have a definition of "home" that ends atan artificial, human-made border. Colombia is part of my "home". Earth is my home, humanity is my family. The rest is politics.

This is so sad, now these children have been uprooted and once again, now family. If that doesn't build bitterness, insecurity, anger. As long as they are in a loving, caring home, that is all that matters. We need new judges, once who are more educated in reality.

Okay, if he were a pedophile or an ax murderer I would agree with the judge's statement, but he's gay, so what?!? They are going to take those boys and put them back into a country where they are going to suffer at the hands of a corrupt system with no one to protect them? Sounds like an excellent plan.

He committed fraud as you have to disclose everything about yourself when you are adopting. If he chose to keep this secret, who knows what else he is hiding. When you lie you lose. Tough break for the kids but they will hopefully find better parent's fort them, if not they are better off without him anyway.

The only father these two boys had? So, the system rips them from a loving family?

I don't know when morons will ever comprehend that "Gay" isn't something that isn't something that rubs off, dammit!

Those boys don't care about what their parents do in bed – they only care about being loved, cared for, and doing family stuff with their dad. Like watching cartoons, joking around, and going out. This is horrible.
