CNN poll: Americans' attitudes toward gay community changing

Washington (CNN) – A majority of Americans say they support legally recognizing same-sex marriage amid growing evidence that the public's become more comfortable with gays and lesbians, according to a new national poll.

CNN/ORC International survey released Wednesday also indicates that the number of Americans who say they have a close friend or family member who is gay has jumped from 49% in 2010 to 60% today, the first time in CNN polling that a majority of Americans have said that. In the 1990s, most Americans said they did not know anyone close to them who was gay.

Oh my gods what is this world coming to. Maybe the sane people here should take a hint from gaming forums. "Don't feed the trolls." People that want to believe their lies can go back to Renaissance Florence with the Office of the Night and let rationally thinking human beings engage in politics on relevant issues. If you want to live in a theocracy live in the Vatican, otherwise, let us have our First Amendment rights and stop bothering people for who they are. A hundred and fifty years ago, someone broke a campaign promise and freed slaves. He fought southern religious fire eaters and was assassinated for it. It's amazing that in the twenty first century the same issues are returning.

@ kurt marriage is an agreement between 1 God, 1 man, and 1 woman. Government has no piace in that agreement. God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gammorha for a reason. Where do you think the word sodomy came from? End of discussion.

Really? Serious "marriage has nothing to do with GOD" okay? who made it up. You or someone who decided just to come up with it. If GOD wanted 2 man together or 2 women It would of been told along time ago. It has been one man and one woman for years. Arguing about it really does not make sense. GOD's rules rules and not mans.

If you are going to misuse the Bible by trying to justify your hate and bigotry at least read it first...

      Ezekiel 16:48-49
“This is the sin of Sodom; she and her suburbs had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not help or encourage the poor and needy. They were arrogant and this was abominable in God’s eyes.”

I don't understand, why exactly do we have the right to vote on other U.S. Citizen's rights? Marriage in the United States has nothing to do with religion, it's a legal status which can be entered into without any church or religion being involved.

Seems as though we Americans always have to deny a groups rights...
Woman shouldn't be able to vote, they don't have the right temperament!
    WHAT?! We can't own someone?!

If we're allowed to vote on other people's rights, where does it stop?

Lastly, when two gay people get married, how exactly does it effect ANYONE ELSE?! We have straight people up the ying yang making a complete mockery of marriage and it's ok because they're straight.

    What a bunch of crap.

Okay the GOD I know does let everyone make a choice. So when it comes to murder, kidnapping etc. there is 2 people. The person who makes the decision has a free choice to stop it or go over board and guess who gets hurt the innocent child. So any children involved are kept safe by taking them out of this fallen world. So again the person doing the act had the choice to do it or stop it. Just like anyone has a decision to drink moderately or heavy. to get behind the wheel or not. CHOICES people make them and want to blame GOD or someone else. COME on now.

Find out why. if we would stop being so ignorant of GOD's word. Live according to what HE says. Life would be more straighter. Whether anyone disagree does not matter. What GOD says in HIS WORD matters.

Who died on the cross for all of our sins. All of us who have read GOD's word will be accountable to every action and how tolerant we were. EVERYTHING> BARE NAKED. GOD does not like sin and what HE calls sin is sin. TRUTH! Realize again us christians will be accountable. SPEAK TRUTH and TAKE A STAND and dont buckle under pressure. BE FAITHFUL.

Gay, clay, may, pla,y say . . . so what. Society is only interested in the legal aspect of Marriage. As far as society is concerned marriage is a LEGAL CONTRACT, that requires certain obligations, and if those obligations are negated by divorce or death . . . then society has certain rules about PROPERTY, who gets what, who owns what, who pays this or that. Just like any "marriage" there are PROPERTY Obligations, that is all society cares about. There is NOTHING about love in a State Marriage License. All that LOVE STUFF is yours to lie about or be true. Whether a preacher in some big building marries you where everyone can compare clothing, or you just go to a Justice of the Peace, it is still only a Legal PROPERTY AGREEMENT as far as the State and society are concerned. Get real about what "marriage" is in a civilized society. All that other stuff love, and honor, and cheating, and all the religious stuff, is really between the two principles and no one else. The State does not care about that stuff. Seems some are confusing what their personal religious beliefs are with the Legal Contract that two people make with the society about joining property and the distribution of that property at disolution or death.

        I mean what I said.

The Bible is not God's direct word. At best, it's God's word passed through 1) the imperfect and culturally-tied original author; 2) multiple, equally-imperfect editors; 3) translators who, in addition to being imperfect, often wish to lean the result; and 4) how the reader understands what he finds there. Not direct at all, but we do the best we can with what we have.

Have you never prayed a question to God that you didn't already pick out an answer to in advance? Have you ever received an answer to such a question?

Some of us believe that orientation is morally neutral, and that what is a sin is treating people as inferior just because they're paired with someone with matching parts nobody sees anyway. And while many who don't agree with that position at all do indeed act from a position of love, however misguided, there are quite a lot of others who do indeed act in a hateful manner and *paint* that as love, and you know it.

Neither is it your business to judge the "sins" of others. When YOU stand before your God, what will you say about your judgement of others? All you haters are a bunch of snooping busy bodies who are guilty of the sin of pride and judgement.

All of the "Associations & Agencies" are all MAN RUN not God Run. You can believe as you wish, but it is what it is. God did create and the FALL came and there you have it, whether it is genetic or choice, the Fall came and you are part of that as we all are, we "straight" choose a different path, the one that allows reproduction, which by the way is part of the plan.

You do know that whole hamster gay thing only applies to a handful of gays right? Most gays would protect a hamster.

Love and physical attraction may have chemical effects on the body but there is no cure short of chemical castration. The emotions of love or physical attraction felt by gays is exactly the same experienced by straights.
