(CNN) –The immigration debate often centers on stemming the flow of people entering the United States illegally and what to do about securing borders to the south. But here's a fact that goes without much attention: Asians have now taken over Latinos as the largest group of new arrivals every year.
In 2010, 36% of new immigrants were Asians compared to 31% for Hispanics, according to a report released Tuesday by the Pew Research Center.
That's a significant change from a decade ago, when 19% of immigrants were Asians and 59% were Hispanics.
"They were already a significant part of the immigration story. It seems like in the last few years they are the most important part of the immigration story," said Karthick Ramakrishnan, a political scientist at the University of California at Riverside, and expert on Asian-American immigration and civic participation.
He said that if the trends continue, Asian-Americans will play greater roles in shaping American society and perhaps, more significantly in an election year, they will have an impact at the polls.
"This is an important moment to see immigration for what it is - that it is far more complicated and diverse than deporting illegal immigrants," Ramakrishnan said, referring to discussion sparked by President Barack Obama's policy shift last week to spare some children of illegal immigrants from deportation.
Far fewer Asian Americans enter the United States illegally than do Hispanics. The Pew survey looked at recent arrivals of people with both legal and unauthorized status, as well as those arriving with work, student or other temporary visas.
Pew's exhaustive new report on Asian-Americans found important differences between Asian-Americans and other population groups in America. It also shed light on the diversity among Asian-Americans, who sometimes cringe at the broadness of the category that covers every country of origin from Afghanistan to South Korea.
The Pew survey showed that across the board, Asian-Americans are more satisfied than any other Americans with their lives, finances and direction of the country.
They also place more value on traditional marriage, family and parenthood and usually possess a strong work ethic.
Nearly seven in 10 respondents said people could get ahead if they are willing to work hard. And 93% of Asian-Americans describe people of their origin as "very hard-working," whereas only 57% said the same about Americans as a whole.
Asian-Americans also attain college degrees (61%) at about double the rate of recent non-Asian immigrants (30%), Pew found.
"The overall picture that you get from this survey is that like immigrants throughout American history, Asian-Americans are strivers," said Pew’s Paul Taylor, who edited the study.
"But what's interesting about them are the educational credentials.” He said. “By far they are the best educated in American history."
It's not that Asian-Americans value education more.
"Everyone values education," Ramakrishnan said. "But the difference is in the sacrifices Asian-Americans are willing to make."
He said his department’s research has found instances where Asian families in Southern California will move into a much smaller house in order to move to the best school districts.
However, some Asian-Americans recognize that they may go overboard in stressing hard work.
Nearly 39% in the Pew survey said Asian-American parents put too much pressure on their children to do well in school. Think "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother," the provocative memoir by Yale Law Professor Amy Chua that sparked conversation about strict parenting.
Pew recognized the vast differences between the nationalities lumped under the U.S. Census Bureau category of Asian-American - the six major countries are China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam and India.
New citizens: Why did you become an American?
Indian-Americans lead other groups in terms of income and education.
Seven in 10 Indian-American adults ages 25 and older have a college degree, compared with about half of Americans of Korean, Chinese, Filipino and Japanese ancestry, and about a quarter of Vietnamese-Americans.
Ramakrishnan attributed that largely to the fact that the Indians coming to America are the cream of the crop. They also have very high proficiency levels in English because of a history of British colonialism.
As a whole, Pew found Asian median income and household wealth exceeded average Americans.
Asian median annual household income is $66,000 versus $49,800 for all Americans.
Asians who came to this country are more likely than their compatriots back home to say their standard of living is better than that of their parents at the same stage of life.
But there are differences on the socioeconomic ladder.
Americans with Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese and “other U.S. Asian” origins have a higher poverty rate than does the general public, while Pew found that those with Indian, Japanese and Filipino origins have lower rates.
There were other factors that made the groups distinct.
The survey noted that Indian-Americans stand out in the personal importance they place on parenting - 78% of them said being a good parent is one of the most important things to them personally.
Korean-Americans are the most likely to say discrimination against their group is a major problem, and they are the least likely to say that their group gets along very well with other racial and ethnic groups.
In contrast, Filipinos are the most positive on interethnic and interracial relations in America.
The Vietnamese are the only major subgroup who arrived on American shores as political refugees; the others say they have come mostly for economic, educational and family reasons.
Ramakrishnan said the Vietnamese were also the only subgroup that tended to vote Republican but that is changing given anti-immigration positions and other exclusionary measures supported by some GOP lawmakers.
The American dream began later for Asian-Americans than other immigrant groups because of racial discrimination.
It was not until 1965, during the height of the civil rights movement and robust economic growth, that the United States opened its doors to immigration from all parts of the world.
The decision paved the way for Asian-Americans to grow from less than 1% of the population more than 40 years ago to nearly 6% now.
Persisting prejudice against Asians led to many communities developing in their own enclaves, Taylor said. Hence the blossoming of Chinatowns, Japantowns and Koreatowns.
But now Asian-Americans are more likely to live in mixed neighborhoods and marry out of their race.
"When newly minted medical school graduate Priscilla Chan married Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg last month, she joined the 37% of all recent Asian-American brides who wed a non-Asian groom," the Pew report said.
Between 2008 and 2010, 29% of all Asian newlyweds married someone of a different race, compared with 26% of Hispanics, 17% of blacks and 9% of whites.
Among them, Japanese had the highest rate of intermarriage and Indians had the lowest, Pew said. More than half of recent Japanese newlyweds married a non-Asian; among recent Indian newlyweds, one in eight did.
Another big distinction was with single parenthood. Forty-one percent of all American parents are single parents. Among Asians, that number plummets to 16 % and among Indians, it's 2% to 3%.
Pew spoke with 3,511 Asian-Americans between January 3 and March 27. The telephone interviews were conducted in English and seven Asian languages.
Ramakrishnan said the Asian-American population, unnoticed before in many spheres of American life, would only continue to increase its share of the spotlight.
In swing states like Virginia and Nevada, where census data now shows Asians make up 9% of the population, Asian-Americans will make a mark at the ballot box in November, Ramakrishnan predicted. Most tend to vote Democratic.
"Republicans should be wary," he said.
At the very least, Taylor said the robust Asian-American immigration is sure to redefine the debate over people coming to these shores.
"Illegal immigration has been a driver of the immigration policy debate and illegal immigration has been primarily associated with Hispanics," he said.
But now, he said, the discussion may be forced to keep up with immigration realities.
"I just feel a bit sad b/c I've known quite a few white male friends of mine that end up marrying Asian... most specifically Indo women and just treated as Cash Cows and a "ticket to America".... Have nothing in common and the guy has to live a seperate life.. hides his smoking and such. And She controls the money... It's disgusting to me.. because they are great guys and those women will never truelly know or appreciate the guys they dupe. I'm just real bitter over it... are all Asian women like this??? My workforce is 90%+ Indonesian."
I strongly suggest you get an Asian boyfriend. It will be good for you and the intelligence of your future kids!
"The United States has gone from being a triumph of Western achievement to being a third world refugee camp. What a comedown!"
No. The US has gone from being a creditor country to a country indebted to the rich Asians...now that is a comedown!
Either way, we should be equally ashamed of ourselves.
The United States has gone from being a triumph of Western achievement to being a third world refugee camp. What a comedown!
Immigration is but a tiny facet of our overall "comedown". Look at the whole picture. You REALLY get depressed!

As a child of first generation immigrants -Irish-Italian-I need to say that immigration should be stopped for the United States at this time-Our open door policy was intended to populate a country in need of citizens. As noble as "give us your"etc. sounds.Unless of course we want to continue to take advantage of unfortunate and desperate people.Which is really the basis of our immigration policy now and it always has been-Sure we accept desperate people-people willing to work for almost nothing because it was better than where they came from -Poles Chinese Italians Irish-Business has always made out with the desperate-it is the American way-Slave labor and desperate immigrant labor is the foundation of our "great country"-because it was "better" than where they came from-And in most cases it was-But there was not one who would rather have been in their own country if they could.TO THIS DAY.One fact that people overlook is that in the past all new immigrants were willing to work for less even though legal. But there was no responsiblity for the employer at that time no minimal wage or benefits legally required as opposed to now.US is still the lowest(or close to) in regards to employees in devloped countries-We had slave labour long after Britain abolished it.And I believe we have still not forsaken that mindset. When I hear that there are countries far worse-or I'm glad to still have a job-I get angry because -This is the country that was supposed to be different-this is the country where we stand -where we matter-not just better compared to the lowest of the low-I believe we have taken a step back in time -where nobles and land owners had control(to their benefit)and we are under the impression that we are living in a free society-we are not-It is all in degrees.
Out of 50.6 million Hispanic /Latinos in the US only 6.1 million are here illegaly, so shut up unless you know what your talking about. And there not all mexican There from guatamala, El Salvador,Honduras,Costa Rica,Panama.Only racist lump all these people together as Mexican. I dont even think most know what a Mexican looks like. And the only ones that come here illegaly are the very poor that dont have access to legal resources, such as an immigration lawyer.
We're all immigrants!
Actually, no we're not. Most of our ancestors were, but if you're born here, you're by very definition NOT an immigrant. Of course, that being said, I do get your point and agree!
there's goes the traffic
At least some good news on the immigration front.
I'd say it's a good news.
Asians study and work diligently, and they have the lowest crime rate by race (except Southeast Asians like Philippinos).
I'm sure America will be a richer country with these people coming in to become Americans.
Philippines may have lots of crimes everyday but not all are uneducated. It's funny because you will see a lot of Filipinos around the world being successful in whatever career they choose. It's a fact.
That's because they are self sufficient and motivated. They don't come from a place where everything is given to you on a silver platter and all you have to do is cash the check.
I have taught English as a Second Language for 20 years to many nationalities so I speak from experience. If Asian immigrants have not studied English prior to coming to the U.S., (a rarity), they learn English as soon as possible. They do not expect anyone to translate for them. If they need a translation, they have an electronic translator to help. They do not expect everything to be in their language at airports, stores, etc. Asian students are embarrassed if they do not understand our culture and they try very hard to experience American culture. However, in my experience it is rare to have a Latino (Hispanic) student in my class who ASKS for additional homework to practice. Latinos often miss class to work and their desire is to make money. In years past it was to send that money back home to their poor families. Today, it is to buy things here in the U.S. such as cars, jewelry, etc. If I sound biased, I apologize. It is merely the facts I have witnessed. Education is the number one priority of Asians; making money is the priority of Hispanics. Hispanics have their own sub-culture in communities so they do not feel the need to learn English. Asians want to assimilate into our culture. While I do understand the need to feed starving families 'back home' in their native countries, I feel any immigrant from any country should come here the legal way. If I thought the majority were sending money back home, I would have more empathy for their situation. African students are another separate situation. Many are here on a political refugee status. Due to their lack of education in their native war-torn countries, they often have not had one day in a classroom. They start English classes, struggle and many give up on learning English as soon as they have a job. They regularly send money home and that money feeds their large families. They have no desire to attain 'things' in the U.S. and are happy with second-hand clothes, furniture, etc. Their goal is to make enough money to build an appropriate house in their country, then return home after about 10 years in the U.S. Of course there are exceptions to all of the above statements. I have a program of about 300 multi-cultural students, so I speak from my experience only. In my opinion, I would like to see illegal immigrants be required to learn English, finish high school, have a clean legal record and hold a job for at least four years. Then if that is done, allow them to apply for Citizenship like others do. We are a multi-cultural country. Our country was founded by immigrants. I have met many fine, hard-working immigrants through the years. Those who succeed and find that 'dream' they came to this country to find, have learned English and USE English on a daily basis.
The Government was created by immigrants your correct about that. However morally speaking and in the eyes of God this was is and will always be the Mother Land of Native Americans.
It's funny the more European you look act and look the more society believe you are the real deal Hollyfield.
Moreover the more Native American looking you are the more chances of someone questioning your origins.
People can become citizens of the U.S. government all day but they will never be ORIGINAL AMERICANS because that is carried in the DNA.
The reason people hate Latinos so much and particularly the Mexicans is because the carry that same DNA of the ORIGINAL Americans.
So many Asians, Africans and Latinos have been tricked into really thinking Caucasians are Native to America.
Stop lying to the worlds and yourself.
Take a history class. Native Americans migrated from Asia.
Indians, bla, bla, bla, your ancestors walked here too. I am as native as you and I am not an Indian
Funny that you bolster your argument by invoking a deity imported from Europe! LOL!
We're taken over the world economy. We're now taken over US. Mr. Teacher, you're smart being nice to us and if you are not, oh well it seems too late to do anything about it. I'm sure we all agree that it's good for the world. We love US 🙂
This is getting a bit more seitucjbve, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of neighbors will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune Social is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
anyone actually read this
I reply to you because of your experience and shared beliefs-They are reasonabIe. Looked for this article because I just called a phone company to address a billing issue and was told 1 for english 2 for spanish-and I pushed neither to see what would happen-I was hung up on.I know for a fact that asian immigration exceeds hispanic-and I wonder why hispanic is always the other option-And I feel uncomfortable with that. Why has the business world jumped on the need to communicate with this particular ethnic group? Above all others-even those who exceed in numbers? It will appear not politically correct to state what I believe the reasons are so I will refrain from that-But I will say that construction etc. does seem to rely on this particular group of low wage workers and all the service needs that implies.
Interesting observations. My observations differ somewhat. From working with Asian women and living in an area with many Asians, it seems that they don't have much interest in having friendships with people who are not Asian. I always see groups of Asian females together with no other races in the group. They marry white men, but then I never see them with the white family members. I don't call that willing to assimilate. What you say about hispanics is sadly true. I see it all the time. My husband, who is a Hispanic immigrant) left high school because he wanted to make money. The mother was happy because she needed him to help with the bills. I think it's a combination of ignorance and short sightedness. Fortunately, I have been able to steer him away from people with this mentality and he has accomplished a lot.
In the San Gabriel Valley section of Los Angeles County everything is in Chinese. I don't know where you get the idea that they learn English. All of the businesses here for miles and miles are in Chinese. If you're not Asian, they'll serve you, but then hustle you out right away.
A quote from the late Deng Xiaopeng; "I don't care if a cat is white or black as long it can catch mice." In order words it is better to live in a diverse democratic society where people can do the work than live under a majority that practices fascism in politics and religion. As Rev. Billy Graham once said; "I don't want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard righ has no interest in religion except to manipulate it."
The universe always have the last laugh. Colonizers are reaping what they sow. Haters now have to deal with other ethnic groups hmmmmm....something has come home to roost.
What was the reason of publishing this article? I do not want to say anything about media nowadays. I hope it benefits somebody something. but this article will not. it only invoke hatred. who cares this stuff? give us something meaningful, please.
Not so. Actually it is good to see that other nationalities are making America their home. It probably bothers the tea party...(oh I'm sorry), or others that think that America is mostly white...well that is changing...oops it has changed already!!! Everyone is bringing something different to the table. If Asians are the most educated, then maybe the rest of us will get on board and focus on education and less on the boob tube and trying to be famous or whatever our young people are focusing on. Maybe focusing on education will reduce gang violence and maybe even help some stay out of drugs and alcohol. Maybe, if we focus on a good education we will become a critically thinking society, and less self interested voting dullards. Plus, there is room for everyone!!! What is the problem?
Largest group of LEGAL immigrants. Big Difference.
we are talking about organized, focussed and driven people. I hope they understand that in the US our cats and dogs live with us as family members and are not considered FOOD.
wow you managed to praise and insult a group of people all in one sentence. Good for you.
Here is the problem in a nut shell-Largest group of legal immigrants(asians)- become the middle class-No problem. No Asian option on any phone menus.Oh -we can't figure out how to solve the illegal(read not minimal wage)immigrant problem.Legal immigrants same as the rest of us-Illegal immigrants pawns for the business world.Illegal=slave labor. And all services contibuting to the enablement of this=slave labor.Phone, credit card, driving, lawn work, child care, restaurants, hotels etc.we all know they are being used for inexpensive desperate labor. The fact is before our eyes-The illegal immigration problem is because business is paying below minimal wage for them and the government is allowing it. Period the end.
I am always amazed how hateful the remark section on CNN is, Fox monitors their site better than CNN. There should be no room for such hateful remarks, those that make such remarks are demonstrating to the World what bigots and racist people we are.
Do you not understand that America was built by immigrants and immigrants continue to be one of the largest new job creators in this country. The people we vote into office will not tackle this issue, either side. The internet has exposed one thing, when Americans can hide behind "stage names" they are a very brave, hateful and mean lot
if you think America is the only country where racism exists then you are truly in the dark.
I wish CNN would stop posting articles about latinos. It's just making me aware of how much white U.S. Americans hate latinos, think we are all illegal immigrants, and that we all come from Mexico. Where are you hateful people? Most of my friends are white and they've never expressed these feelings towards me. Makes me wonder if this is how most White Americas feel but only have the balls to be so hateful online. I understand being against illegal immigration, but your comments are borderline discrimanatory if not full blown racist.
yet you are contradicting yourself by lumping all whites in the "racist" category.
"Between 2008 and 2010, 29% of all Asian newlyweds married someone of a different race, compared with 26% of Hispanics, 17% of blacks and 9% of whites." They are racist.
Latinos – Well at least the non-Spanish part of them – were the Asian immigrants of 15,000 years ago.
Asian immigration from India, Pakistan, and China should be stopped completely. We have nothing in common with those people. Stand up Americans. We are a sovereign country. Not a country to be invaded. Immigration is invasion. We the indigenous (descended from those who formed the nation over 200 years ago) should have a direct say in saying – "get the hell out of my country". We don't need the foreigner here. Let them go to China or Africa.
I agree 100% also... As a California Hispanic, born and raised in Cal...we don't need any immigrants from Asia OR Mexico-we have to start looking for us Californians first and foremost, no matter what ethnicity you are–if you're from Cal, you're Californian. The U.S. federal immigration problem is broken-we need a more proactive state policy that disfavors international immigration into California if our children are to have any viable future in the state... We need shut immigration off completely for at least 15 years. When America had minimal immigration into it in the 1940's & 50's, that's when the greatest realization of prosperity & quality of life happened, ever since the immigration reppeal, it's been in steady decline!
Given the high poverty and high crime rate of Hispanics immigrants, Asian immigration would be a necessity to counter them as Asians have the lowest crime rates of all races and the highest income rates of all races. Not to mention that Asians have very high entrepreneur rates which creates jobs for everyone.
We NEED the Asian immigrants, to keep the hi-tech sector of this country afloat. US math education is so poor that the US does not train a sufficient number of computer scientists or mathematicians to keep the high-tech industries functional.
African Americans have no home, but America. They did not come here by choice. Most American Americans have 60% White blood from slavery. You can not judge them by their color of skin. So, They would not be accepted in Africa because of their White blood from this country. Slavery built this country. You can not cut out the past from America's history.
I think you should do some research before commenting on DNA percentages. Most African Americans do NOT have 60% white genes.
Nah, Asians will continue to be a force in America and in American culture. Sorry that you are crying a river – but it's the reality now. Either live with it or YOU can leave the U.S.A. Asian-Americans are inevitably here and are going to stay here.
You have the same say as me, a US Citizen. On a daily basis, Asian immigrants, ESPECIALLY from India and China constantly add value to American society. Do you press 2 for Hindi? 3 for Mandarin? No. We all come, we assimilate and we grow to love our new home. Unlike most Latinos, we don't ask the USA to conform to us, we coform to it.
Sadly you are too stupid to even look at a gift and appreciate it. Its okay though, I will continue to work hard and earn an obscene amount of money, so that my taxes can support you and your uneducated kin.
Again this is AMERICA, you don't like it? Go back to your ancestors motherland because it obviously wasn't America.
Thank God. Maybe they'll counter all the negative effects of some of our other immigrants.
You've never heard of a White Hispanic???? Are you serious??? You've never been to Miami or Los Angeles than! Nearly 40% of ALL Latinos indicate that their racial background is White–including myself! If you know who Louis CK is or Alexis Bledel/Selena Gomez than you know what a White Hispanic is... Is one thing to play stupid, but it's another to be stupid-for your sake, I hope you're just playing stupid!
Asians in Japan take English speaking classes before they come here. I can respect that ,I can't respect mexicans coming over here refusing to learn english and dumbing down our schools teaching spanish and spanish culture you want to learn about your country of origin do it on your own time (mexicans)
California belongs to Chicanos–we're the majority of people under age 18...Spanish or more, Spanglish is an official language of everyday life in L.A., Fresno, San Dieog-basically in Cal, lol. So why demonize us Chicanos for us being in "our" homeland? You don't see people going to Quebec Canada complaining that French speak French, why complain on us for honoring the founders California's heritage, Spanish...that's our heritage, and other than Native Americans, our ethnic group has been here the longest!
Well as an "Hispanic" I think of "Spanglish" as a very underclass thing; it's irritating to hear someone speak Spanish or English with words thrown from either language into their speech. The term "Chicano" is just disgusting; I associate it with gangs and crime. The actual meaning of Chicano is "one with one Mestizo (Euro-Amerindian) parent and one White parent (European.)"
Its so funny how you seem to like to throw it in the face of your "fellow" Americans how you are taking over California. How your culture is the culture of California. It isn't...but you like that idea, yes? So you don't even consider yourself American do you? All you want, is the fact that after your ancestors lost the land, Americans of all kinds build the infrastructure, tilled the land, built the towns....and now you just want it all because your "culture" likes to have 5 to 6 kids each, even though you are so poor you can't afford an education.
Its sad. California is totally broke. Your "culture" has taken over California. What does that say about your glorious "culture"?
News flast jthan....where your parents are from...its a sh!t hole. That's why you are here. Show America some respect.
I don't see a problem. They learn english and don't expect for our teachers to teach asian languages in school and I don't have to press 1 for mandarin etc. Asians show more respect for our culture and language
American culture as in what? What is American culture? The American culture changes and shifts as it incorporates facets from other cultures. The traditional view of American culture is one of Anglo-Saxon. And no one thinks that except for white supremacists.
I disagree and I'm not white. I agree with Bannister.
Asian-Americans will incorporate some of "white" American culture – but will adopt their own way on expressing themselves as Asians. They won't "go with the flow" when their population grows.
Thank you. It is good to see someone with intelligence.
Asa Akita is an awesome Asian American!
Tired to read all this racist comments, the true is that all this dirty talking don't bring anything good to our society and country. Asians are smart, blacks are lazy, latinos are ignorants, white are racists. The true is that I have friends of all kind of ethnicity and I have seen good examples and bad examples and every ethnic group and subculture in this country. Some people is just looking to something to hate and see only the negative side of things. I am hispanic and , with sadness in my hearthI say that I get desapointed and emabarraced with the behaiver of some hispanics, but also I'm proud of the achivments of others, so I can't change what other people do, all I can do es lead with my example to be a good citicen, I love my city, my state, I care for my community, and practice good values.
All these comments just bring resentment among communities, we all live in this wonderfull country, let's work together to make it a better place to live and be an example to other countries about civility, kindness, respect for life, respect for human rights, expression with sencitivity, express yourself, considering that others are human like you, with feelings. Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
you mean "truth" not "true" right?
Most immigrants, as a whole, come to America to get an education, work hard, and to be an American. African immigrants, who attain more college degrees then any other immigrant group, as well as Asian immigrants (who come in second), as well as immigrants from the Caribbean and elsewhere are far more useful to America then the average America. These are the people who become the doctors, engineers, architechs, etc.
I agree completely! There is room for everyone! Our country is actually a very cool place! You can believe what you want, marry who you want (even if your family disowns you), get an education or not, have a business or not, fail or succeed...just be!!! Of course as long as you don't infringe upon your fellow citizen. Utopia...sort of.
TELL ME WHO TO BE AFRAID OF NOW CNN!!! I'M SO UTTERLY AFRAID!!! ANYTHING YOU TELL ME WILL MAKE ME FEAR FOR MY LIFE!!! THEY ARE TAKING MY JOB!!! HOW CAN I VOTE WHEN I HAVE TO PUSH THROUGH A CROWD OF IMMIGRANTS!!! HELP, CNN, HELP!!!
Incompetent American blame immigrants for everything!
Asians are so consistent.
I mean...they all look alike.
I think that's the same for every race. in my eyes, whites all look alike. Of coz, David Beckham is the most handsome man.
There are certainly a great deal of facts like that to just take into cordisenation. That is a fantastic level to deliver up. I provide the ideas above as common inspiration but obviously there are questions like the 1 you bring up where the most crucial point will be operating in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged all around things like that, but I am confident that your occupation is evidently identified as a honest game.
You too look alike to other communities.
The difference is most people really don't care, who alike and who doesn't, and folks like you go through life, thinking about such things.
I'm also asian and came to this country 39 years ago with a couple of hundred dollars in my pocket. Right from the get go I had a goal and that was to work as hard and make as much money as I can while still young and able to. I've been working 60 to 70 hours a week and at times during holidays but didn't mind because I had a goal. Today I have a beautiful wife of hispanic ancestry 3 independent children each of whom have their own houses and kids, my house sits in a golf course and also owns a 3 bedroom condo on the beach also have 11 rental apartments and a 4 bedroom house on rental. I also drives a Mercedes Benz SL500 and a Chevy Avalanche and my wife drives a Jaguar XJ8. I also retired at 54 years of age. LIFE IS GOOD in AMERICA
Thank you. Unfortunately, too many Americans refused to see the obvious riches and opportunities which have been bestowed upon them.
So they are called Asian Americans before they even come here...lmao. Who ever wrote this must have been an Asian. Who cares if are migrating so rapidly. You guys don't even fit and now looking to populate America to the extreme.
I'm not sure where you get this idea of whoever wrote this article must be an Asian. If anything, CNN just copied all their facts from Pew Research Center.
It would seem a important fact was not mentioned.
1. What percentage of Asians are here leaglly ?
2. What percentage of Latinos are here leaglly ?
I have always found that other nationalities are accepted quickly who go through the immigration process, especially those who desire to spend the time, to follow our laws and become citizens. Very few people want those who take the time to do so leaglly to leave the US.
If china would be south of the border, trust me we would be speaking mandarin.
Somehow I don't think that applies to the 70% of Indian immigrants with college degrees and the 30% with Masters and PhDs.
They're mostly engineers, doctors, scientists, etc. and don't really have employees let alone slave drive Americans (which as an American I have to say is pathetic - how do you group in the wealthiest country in the world and find yourself subordinate to someone from one of the poorest? If you worked half as hard as that Indian immigrant, you'd be the boss. Stop complaining).
one of the better replies I have ever seen on these boards
I am completely in favor of more hot Asian women coming over to this country.
MAJOR thumbs up on this one!
Then the Asian-American guys will get your women. Fair trade.
This is a good report. Thanks CNN. Hope to see more Asian-American politicians in the future.
Goyims will always have their own take about their short comings. Jews rule the world! Go figure!
May Allah, the Magnificent one, grace your kitchen with a very large pork roast!
The important statement in this article is while there are far more Asian immigrants to the US than Hispanic, there are significantly less illegal immigrants. The key is illegal immigrants. The large majority of the population of the US, 99% or more, are descended from immigrants. My only complaint is we as a nation spend far too much on the illegal immigrants. Not one penny of tax money should go to support any illegal immigrant.
No one will ever accuse YOU of being a humanitarian...
Then YOU take them in and take care of them, Jean. The rest of us are sick and tired of supporting your beloved criminals.
I would bet your ancestors got to the US illegally...
Yay!!! Good news!
Maybe they can help teach hispanics how to be great immigrants (and also legal).
MY view ..At some point in life ...Every One should immigrate to another part of the world and experience other cultures. It might make the world better place . Worlds wisest leaders are immigrants at some point in their life. Mahatma Gandhi, Barack Obama , Aung San Su Kyi are immigrants at some point in their life.
Even Jesus was an immigrant, Jose took his family and run to Egypt when Herods were killing the babies in Betlehem, was this family legal while was living in egypt? well, yes and no, they didn't have the though immigration laws that we have these days, but the equivalent to those laws would be an invitation letter from egypt rules, and that didn't happened. 🙁
Only in America
Looking to start another racist fight, CNN? Well, once again you succeeded.
Don’t be such a sheep. People have this discussion everyday..regardless of CNN.
that's not true. most white people do not see this coming.
Zune and iPod: Most people coparme the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
Asian guys dig American women, you know. Especially Asian-American men.
Greetings earthlings. You guys can argue all you like about which race is better. me and my alien friends will continue laughing at you while changing the Earth. Naner Naner.
It is actually cultural difference being discussed. Please try to keep up Mork.
The difference is, most asians do more for there comunity then most lations.
Donna! Anti biblical ?? Are food stamps biblical?
In a sense. Letting people starve certainly isn't biblical. What about having compassion for others? Matthew 19:21: "Jesus said unto him, 'If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.'"
the picture is misleading. big chunk of asians that came over are the darker kinds from south asia or the middle east. not the lighter skin ones pictured here from northern asia. cnn needs to be more accurate and specific with their depictions.
You have no idea what you are talking about do you?
Let's face it. Asians are the model minority in the U.S. and a lot of whites and others are jealous of their achievement. Like the crabs in the bucket trying to pull down those above them. Instead of whining and complaining, try following their lead and you too will be successful. Otherwise, be quiet and keep that minimum wage job at MickeyD's or Walmart.
Why would Republicans be wary? I am an Asian American and I always vote Republican. The Asians are highly educated and generally possess traditional family value and are conservative with money. Most of them are fiscally conservative and socially moderate like myself. Economic issues are generally more important to Asians than social issues (not that the latter are not important, just not as much by comparison).
You are not the only one Asian American they are talking about in the article. If you vote for Republican and agree with their political views, it does not necessarily mean all the Asian Americans do the same. In fact, the article is clearly pointing out that "Most [Asian Americans] tend to vote Democratic". Please don't embarrass yourself.
so how is this person embarrassing themselves? It seems that you are the one embarrassing yourself by not getting this person's argument. They are saying they are an exception to what the article is saying about MOST asians voting democratic...again this article is lumping all asians in one category. They describe themselves as fiscally conservative and socially liberal which makes them more of an independent.
About time...... Think of it this way, good work ethics, family values, something Americans need to learn from.
So America gets a fresh crop of bad drivers, males with small willies, females with flat chests and flat faces? And they all smell like Top Ramen. On the bright side this will erase the stray dogs and cats in the neighborhood.
Debate my statements, all are true liberal.
I always expect ignorant bigots like you, to show up whenever subjects like immigration or anything relating to minorities, is reported.
I'm a Native American and I married a Korean which was the best decision of my life. The whole immigration debate cracks me up. How does it feel to be an Indian? How do you think the Natives feel when their country is over run by invaders? Too bad the only focus is on the Mexicans and too bad when the president talks about making children of illegals legal he's basically talking about Mexicans. Yeah, this country needs to have more Mexicans. Look at their country!!! It's only a matter of time. Also, I enjoy all of the "tolerant" goups (Liberals) turn totally intolerant when there are people that don't agree with them!!!
I am referring to the comments of JC, NOT the comments of L.
On the bright side there will be less trash like you and more actual thinking that goes on.
Your comments reveal the worst kind of ignorant, poisonous, mean-spirited racism. It is simply hate.
My mistake again. I am referring to the comments of HH88, NOT the comments of JC or L.
does that mean you are no more ?
Wonder when will Republicans will begin their country wide anti asian campaign...
I have already started that campaign just to please you.
Like the Democrats invite blacks, Mexicans, of anyone for that matter to their clicks. Ever notice how many immigrants get invited to Hollywood dinners for the president? How many foreigners can afford $40,000 a plate?
More Asians than anyone else, apparently. The Pew poll from the article said Asian Americans make like $20000 more per year on average than white Americans, and Indian Americans make like $40000 more per year.
So the average Indian American could buy a plate at that dinner and end up as an average American... lol.
Interesting how sucessful they are but consider most are here LEGALLY. That's something that allows them to focus on moving forward and openly contributing to this great country like my own immigrant ancestors, rather than hiding in the shadows always fearing deportation.
LEGALLY ??? go to China Town in NY or flushing in Queens.....nobody speaks english!! they sell medicine in chinese language, they make food delieries in bycicles 'cause they can't drive 'cause they don't have Driver's License.
These people don't want to insert themself into the American lifestyle.
They don't celebrate 4th of July , they don't know our national Anthem, they don't know the American history. The only reason they they come here and want from this country is MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C'Mon Dude ...... Really ??? ....just because Chinatown NYC and Queens have a few of them living like that, that does not mean they are the same way across the country. I spent 10 years in the US Navy, I traveled the whole Pacific Ocean and a lot of Asian People knew a lot of our economic system, our laws and history. More than some people that were born in the US. You need to travel, and get out NYC once in a while. by the way I"m a Hispanic defending my Asian Bros ..... and Ladies 🙂
It's ironical to see you make a remark on the English skills of someone from a non-english speaking country, when your English in the above comment is worse. Plus the little history that America has, rest of the world knows it and knows it better. take the advice of the Navy dude and travel around a bit!!
