The faces of America are changing, and now, so are the numbers. You may know that Hispanics are the "fastest growing minority in the United States," but here are some other facts about Latinos you probably didn't know. (Click on the graphic or here to see a larger version)
Why is Latino and white, then white non Hispanic listed as if they are races? People have probably written this many times and the Media chooses to be ignorant. Latino is not a race, it's like saying American is a race.
Solution to Comprehensive Immigration System (Problem Solved)
[Principles]
(1) Each state in the US has a percentage of immigrants.
(2) The USA has a population percentage of immigrants, inflows of immigrants, outflows of immigrants, and other measures which can contribute to the US representing the diverse cultures of the world.
(3) Each immigrant has a citizen status (legal, illegal, ...)
(4) All "Gains" and "Costs" are in one or more of Capital Allocation Categories with Mental Capital (Mind), Physical Capital (Body), Time (Productivity), Economic Resource (Money, Asset, ... ), Social Capital, Environment Capital.
(5) Each immigrant can add gains, add costs, reduce gains, or reduce costs up through each scope: family, neighborhood, town/city, state, USA, and World.
[Solution]
Create immigration system with processes that do not favor political party, side (left, center, or right), ideology (liberal, conservative, ... ), government size (big or small), or any other division in the USA over the USA; it must favor Profit Maximization for the USA across all Capital Allocations Categories (Life) by totaling the result of adding gains while, and by, reducing costs together.
No sane division or group in the USA can disagree with "1=1", so starting here everybody can agree, build unity, and create an optimal comprehensive immigration reform system.
E-Verify doesnt work to well,,,We had a horrible car accident that 4 Illegals from Guatamala were killed and they could't identify the bodies because they were using assumed names. They were employed at Meat Packing Plant and they said they used E-verify...So it isnt working...I think we should give all the Hispanics free cars...so they will give everyone the vote
Latinos are being done a disservice by being lumped in with "ILLEGAL".Too bad , we grew up with latinos all over the place, trouble has started ever since the "illegals " snuck in and associate with and live in latino communities.Illegals are not "immigrants",they are "illegal alien invaders" and are a danger to America.
It's self inflicted. A community that harbors lawbreakers creates the disdain felt by those following the law. Were the Latino community in the US all legal immigrants, and if the Latino community worked hard to remove those who taint the community by breaking the law (especially immigration law), the community would be known for supporting the law rather than being complicit in breaking the law by their silence.
I don't know where they get off stating that Americans are in favor of immigration reform,in fact,it is A BIG LIE when they make this statement. Imagine America as a lifeboat at sea,how many people can get on before it sinks ?
Does anyone doubt that CNN encourages breaking the laws of the United States. The second time an illegal alien enters the U.S. it is a felony . Hey CNN how about putting up those facts. How about talking about how E-Verify could and would stop illegal aliens from working thus putting a stop to all this B.S. How forgot you have more illegal aliens (who say latinos) in America segments to run.
Actually, that would be a response to MacBaldy;-)
Latino gangs are taking over Compton, CA.
The Latinos gangs are getting orders from leaders in prison and in Mexico.
Coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
Bah Humbug!!!
1st gen, Military.
How many latinos are in the armed forces?
Faust, what's your point?
I think I get your point. Place all illegals in the military for a 5-7 year service. And if they don't want to do it this way then offer another couple options, if not, they are deported. Forever. We could even place a microchip in there skull so that we'd know and track them. We could study there primitive ways, and unethical abuse of the US along with drug habits.
Umm, how about no. As being currently in the military, why do I want to deal with a bunch of people who don't understand my orders because they don't speak English. Also, why would I want to lead marines who didn't want to be there? Nothing but more problems for the military brought on by people outside the military who have no idea what they're talking about.
Kam you do know that there is almost 10,000 puerto ricans in the Army right and they don't get orders in English.
Its very interesting where and how these studies are done.. Everything to keep the races seperate, promote racism and hate. I am so Glad God is not like man. There are many people in evry race that don't vote, work etc. There are many false lies told in regards to all races. There are many people that are still not accounted for in each and every race-census wise. This country could be such a great country if it would stop promoting bigotry, hate and separtism. Until Jesus returns this will always be one issue the devil and his demons work so hard at. God help us to love all people.
God ... hahaha. You are funny.
Well stated, Jarett. As an American who is of Mexican ancestry, I totally agree with you. The media loves to stir the "racism" pot and unfortunately many people believe the stereotypes perpetuated in media. However, I'dl ike to remind everyone that we "Latinos" are indeed everywhere and blending in. The fact is, most us out there go unnoticed because we don't fit the "norm" of what many perceive Latinos to be. But rest assured that the majority of us are there working, shopping, studying side by side by those who seem to think they know all about us - without them realizing who we really are. And for those spewing how we want to "take over," no we don't. We just want to improve our lives and help this country and everyone else who lives in the USA to achieve the American Dream of freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
Guess you never heard of la Raza
You're judging all by a few. Most that I know are productive. Working in the medical field and also in the educational field, I'm seeing more white parents bringing down the system because they dont want to work, they are neglecting their children, the children come to school with many problems and the parents are using the system wrongly and we are paying for it. Not most of course, but those few are growing in numbers. We all have our good and our bad, and I think the country as a whole is declining in morals, being responsible and accountable for their own actions. When the family fiber starts breaking down, it affects the entire country. Hispanic are very family oriented.Single family parenting, abuse of drugs, alcohol, divorce is also contributing to our melt down and in exists in all walks of life and cultures. My co workers and I as well as other educational and medical personnel are very concerned about where this country is headed.A lot of great people out there and the majority of people are good. We need more entrepreunerial spirits who have the creative minds to help make changes because our government is too slow to do it. I think every time the economy falls, they should take a hit in their pocket books. They should also have the same medical benefits as the rest of us. Perhaps then they will be more aggressive in helping the country, instead of waiting til something happens to solve it. Preventative measures. Health care is declining too, its not like the days of family doctors who spent time with you and many people are complaining about the quality of healthcare. What are the solutions? We need stronger leaders in every realm of society and everyone of us can make a difference, and the country needs this encouragement from their leaders to do so. But for you to target one group is wrong. When I go to Walmart, the Hispanic population is not the majority I see poorly dressed, not clean, yelling at their kids, or being rude and disrespectful. Just pay attention next time youre out. Every group has their few who reflect badly on society.
Agree with you. Too many people judge "all" by a few...when our own home grown society is also declining and have plenty of those people who are bogging our society down. We need to make some of them more accountable who are getting away with using government money wrongly. There is A LOT of that going on, I see it in my workplace. We need to work on things as a country of Americans together.
I am a white american from virginia and have moved to south florida and married a Brasilian woman and now i speak fluent portugeuse and basically live in a brasilian community and what u AMERICANS are saying about latinos is for the most part false 75% of them are more educated than most americans i meet better morals and values the culture has more love im at the point unfortunately embarrassed to say im american because most americans are one track robots that beleive everything that the read or see on tv and it makes me sick.....freaking ROBOTS
That's a lie! It's 74%
72%
True Story
Latinos also vote republican becuase they have morals and values most are catholic and marry and get educated unlike the ebt foodstamp recipients that are latino in name only to get benifits am i racist no i know these people first hand a whole section of springfield massachussettes called franklin st disgusting people in that neighborhood
.....and where are you from? the white trash section? Did you just use Republican and moral in the same sentence???? Now that is really funny.
California's population is 40% Hispanic. I live in Northern California and the city I live in is 30% Latino and growing, with some neighborhoods in my city virtually 95-100% Hispanic. California is doing kinda okay yet a lot of Latinos.
Cities.
During.
Recession.
Terrorism.
Don't get me started on the 'per on...'
Maybe you should put your focus and energy towards obtaining a basic understanding of spelling and grammar instead of blaming all of your problems on 'illegals.' Put down the television remote and pick up a book. Green Eggs and Ham might be a good place to start.
LOL, good one Sara, but who are we Hispanics to know? Perhaps we are too "stupit."
The numbers do not add up, must have been prepared by good old Mitt
All of this is so misleading. Just look at the stats, one 16pct of the US is Latino, but only 6.2pct of the voting population is Latino. There is no comment on this disparity. As the new, dominant immigrant group to the US, this is just history repeating itself. Newcomers, whether they be the Irish in the 1840s, the Italians and Chinese in the 1880s the Russians and Poles in the early 1900s have always been ostracized. Eventually Latinos will be more accepted as well, but it will take time. Then, the Latino groups will begin to really divide themselves by national origin and Latino will no longer be acceptable. There is no end to the prejudice that people harbor, it just changes form.
The survey says 1 in 3 think most Latinos are illegal. It doesn't say what percentage are illegal.
I think you're missing the point. Most of us are not illegal, and are pretty tired of that misconception.
Interesting point, why don't you walk up to anybody that has a Hispanic surname in New York City, Miami, Chicago or Albuquerque and ask them to their faces if they're illegal, see what they tell you???
Latino, Chicano, Cuban, Mexican, etc. Not illegal, I am second generation– post graduate degreed and guess what vote. My wife, 1st generation– post graduate degree educated and guess what, she votes too. Many of us "latino's" do indeed vote and do indeed (contrary to popular beliefs) follow and keep up with liberal and conservative politicians. I am glad to be an educator and encourage my family, children and students to let their voices be heard. We do and will continue to make a difference.
To that i applaud you and your accomplishments and encourage you to continue in the fight to educate others i love the differences and similarities of the Black and Latino communities which are so rich in culture, music, arts, history and the colors and nationalities of the people included in the community
You are a second generation with a post-graduate degree yet still struggle with basic English grammar??? I think you should go back to the sham of a college you attended and demand your money back.
Oiga mi gente, does anybody but you pay your mortgage or rent? Put food on your table? Pay your taxes? If the answer is no, what do you care what some dumb culturally handicapped yahoo thinks, que se vayan al carajo.
I am first born Mexican American. I am Hispanic, but I am trying to understand what a typical Latina, Hispanic, ? American looks like. If you want to use a character likeness that most girls will identify with then use Selena Gomez. Most girls can identify with her and like her.
Is kind of weird how in the graph they say that just 2.3 is of two or more races, when actually I kind of pretty sure that more than 80 % of Latinos, myself included, are a mix of different races, does nor matter what is your skin color your
As a first generation american, My father was born in cuba nearly 80 years ago and my mom from puerto rico I proudly consider myself american. I respect my culture and tradition but I embrace america with a great deal of fervor and passion. Traditionally latins work very very hard, family and quality of life are the epicenter of their existence, The America you see now will eventually be dominated by my fellow Latin brethren, get used to it.
Number one thing people don't about Latinos, it's NOT a minority group, a racial group or any other "group". Special interest groups aiming for power and influence are making up a fake group when in fact "Latinos" are people from all different countries, races, and unique cultures. It's like saying Australia and the US are the same because they were ex British colonies. The "Latinos" in the US who are trying to create this group for power and influence are an embarrassment to many of us.
Curious as to what the definition of a "Latino" is.
I assume part of that response was for me. I spent a chunk of my childhood living and going to school in South America. Everyone says they are Columbian, Ecuadorian, etc..whatever country they are from, no one just says I'm Latino/Hispanic as being part of a group. It sounds ridiculous. It seems to be an American thing. Most people from Latin American countries are proud of the country they are from. US Census is dumb and racist, I don't fill in anything. And I hate to break it to you these special interest groups have their own private racist ways of gathering info and it has nothing to do with self reporting. I have never described myself as Hispanic or Latina in this country on any paperwork because I think it sounds stupid YET I get calls on my cell phone, like for prop 38 which is targeting "Latinos". So my name, phone number and the ethnicity they assume I am is on a master list being shared with these political groups. I HATE these groups with a passion and have no way to remove my info from that list.
Come on now Mona, with all respect, be nice please!! Latinos in general do share some common interests and activities regardless of where we came from. Hispania at one time was from Alaska to Chile and from Iberia to Filipinas and Taiwan. There was even big colonies of Hispanics in Costa de Marfil (Ivory Coast) and Israel (Sephardics) look it up. Obviously from Egyiptian, Gypsy, Etruscan, Roman, Celtic, Phoenician, Arab and then to the new world Mongoloid, Amerindian and African we are really a big mix and cultural kaleidoscope which is what makes our culture so rich and colorful. Yet, we do have many commonalities and interests. The arts, music, food, language, religion, energy, soul, etc. What is so wrong to join other people who share same of your same perspectives and interests. And what is so wrong about many groups that would love to have you in their activities lists and different Hispanic agendas want to reach out and offer their fellowship?? We do have the right to choose who we want to associate with and what movements we want to support, so why the hate!!!
It's wrong because they have specific agendas based on race, language and ethnicity. Some of the Hispanic outreach programs like the Brown Berets and La Raza are as racist as the KKK.
It would be interesting to find out what "white" is. After centuries of wars, invasions, and "cross-pollination", Europeans are a hodgepodge. "Caucasian" is not equivalent to "white"; "Aryan" is not equvalent to "white". At this point in human history, we are all mongrels.
I would define it as ethnicity primarily from any Spanish speaking culture. It has nothing to do with who you are now.. more to do where your people were from..
I don't think it should be bounded by the Spanish language. Brazilians make up half of South America and although they do not speak Spanish, they are certainly considered part of the Latinos in America
Yes, Ben, SO true. And from watching an recent TV show in the a history Channel about the origins of man, we are not only mongrels in many parts of the world, but Mongolian too, thanks to Ghenghis Khan:-)
